Then all you have to do is press 'delete'. When you press this you'll get the 'dancing ants' where your path was. Set it up just like mine and then press 'ok'. Choose "Make Selection" and you'll get another pop-up like the other one below. Close the path (either do this by leading the path back to the original anchor or it will do it when you right-click somewhere) and then right-click the page somewhere. Let's just say I want to cut out this little bit of the picture. To make another one just click further down the outline. To get the pen tool to work, click on the image somewhere. A little pop-up will appear and you can change the pen settings there). To get to it click on the pen tool and hold it there. Then select the pen tool (highlighted) and we can start to cut out the image (I just use the default pen setting though you can use the freehand one if you want. Change your back colour to something that doesn't appear in the main image (I've used a shocking pink). See my layers? Have your image sitting ontop of the background. But before we start with the pen we need to set the layers up. Don't worry if you've never used it before, it's hard to start with put you'll pick it up with practise. Now it's time to use the pen tool (in the image above I've already cleared a bit with the pen). The picture I've used has two open sides, the left and the top. This basically means that at on at least one side of the picture part of the main image you want to show up on the skin isn't touching the edge. HOT TIP: When chosing a picture to skin, try and select one that has 'open sides'. On the info box it will now have pixel mesurments in the X: and Y: when you scroll over the image (by the way, I've hidden my layer, character and history palletes up at the top so I have as much free canvas as I can get. At the bit at the bottom where it says "Mouse Coordinates" change the drop-down to pixels and that should be it ready to go. Click on it and you'll get another pop-up. See the little arrow in the circle? Click on that and you'll get a little pop-up that say's "Pallete Options". Now you need to convert it to read the image in pixels (since it's defaulted to work in inches and we need pixels to make the skin). You need to display the information box so to do that go to Window>Show Info. ![]() First of all, open your image (I'm using a rather lovely picture of Ban and Ginji since it's easy to cut out). (If you know how to cut images out in photoshop then go to part two: painting You don't have to bother with the cursor files unless you want to make custom ones (I don't know how though), the default ones will show even if you don't include them in the zip. ![]() Open the base skin and extract the following files: ![]() Now you have the base skin, make a folder on your desktop and call it 'skin'. You can download it from (remember that this is a 'classic' winamp skin tutorial, so please select version 2 download!) or if you can't find it there download from here. So first, you're going to need the base skin. Some version of photoshop above 6 (I use 6 and CS but I'm making this tutorial in 6 since it's more basic). Here's a list of what you're going to need: I've just spent a lot of time creating shortcuts and cheats that save as much time as possible when skinning. This is my own method that I've made up for myself over the past couple of years and you by no means have to copy it exact. You can apply the techniques here to any picture, it doesn't have to be a manga image. In this tutorial I'm going to teach you how to make your own winamp skins. This has been written for people who have absolutely zero knowledge of photoshop and skinning so if you're in tune with your photoshop there are parts of this you can probably miss out (oh, and I know I have crappy spelling so you don't have to tell me :P). Seriously, how many people have asked me how I make skins o_O Anyhoo. I've been so busy with other things that this tutorial has taken back seat but it's here now (I did actually write one up away back in February but it sucked so I never posted it). Sorry it's taken me so long to write this up.
